Licia Ronzulli Shows Us A Glimpse of The Modern Workplace

On the eve of International Women’s Day, Michaelia Cash, the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women, revealed she doesn’t believe in “labeling” herself a feminist, preferring to explain that while she believes in women, she also “believes in men.”

There must have been some confusion because in a recent Women’s Day event, Tony Abbott referred to himself as a feminist.

Senator Penny Wong told Fairfax that perhaps Senator Cash got her nomenclature wrong, pointing out that feminism is more than just a label, “it’s an expression of ideals”. The ideals of equality and advocating for women’s rights.

So while our politicians dodge important issues and appear confused on the subject of feminism and women’s rights, a European Parliament member shows us a glimpse of the modern workplace.

The European Parliament has family-friendly rules allowing mothers to bring their children to work. So Licia Ronzulli, an Italian member of the European Parliament, did exactly that.

She first brought her daughter Vittoria to a plenary session when was just 44 days old as a symbolic gesture to show her support for women reconciling work and family life.

Vittoria has been joining her mother  at Parliamentary sessions ever since, and voting on important issues before Parliament alongside her mother. This particular photo made headlines in November 2013 when the Daily Mail reported little Vittoria agreeing with her mother and raising her hand during a vote on the Eurozone debt crisis.
